Leica Introduces Second-Generation Sofort 2 Hybrid Instant Camera

Leica, the renowned imaging company, is launching its second-generation hybrid instant camera, the Sofort 2. Following the success of the original Sofort camera in 2016, Leica continues to combine digital and analog photography in its latest offering.

The first Sofort camera was known for its distinctive design and resemblance to the Instax Mini camera. However, Leica’s design team specifically created the stylish appearance of the Sofort, contributing to its higher price point. The camera was available in orange, white, mint, and later red, and came with three Leica-branded film pack options.

Leica describes the Sofort 2 as seamlessly blending the everchanging digital world with the timeless analog realm. The camera features a 4.9-megapixel CMOS image sensor with an RGB color filter and a Leica Summar 1:2/2.4 lens. It offers a variety of shooting modes, including a selfie mode with a dedicated shutter button, a wide-angle landscape mode, and a close-up macro mode. Users can view their shots on the 3-inch rear monitor, which has a resolution of 460,000 dots. To add visual flair to the images, the camera includes various lens and film effects. Additionally, there is a built-in flash module, and a manual lever on the top rear serves as the printing initiation control.

One notable feature of the Sofort 2 is the ability to save digital images. Users can select the best shots for printing on Instax Mini-format photo paper with either a white or gold frame. The camera has an internal memory capacity of approximately 45 shots, but it also includes a microSD card slot for expanded storage.

Furthermore, users can print images not only from the camera’s internal memory but also from a smartphone’s photo library or other Leica cameras stored in the Leica Fotos app. The menu structure and button layout of the Sofort 2 align with those of other digital Leica cameras. The camera is powered by an internal lithium-ion battery, which allows for approximately 100 instant photos per charge.

The Leica Sofort 2 will be available for purchase starting November 9 in black, white, or red, retailing for $389. Leica will also offer a range of accessories, such as wooden picture frames, wrist straps, and carry bags, to accompany the camera. With its advanced features and Leica’s expertise, the Sofort 2 provides a unique and stylish option for capturing and preserving memories.
